How Did It Go?

All in all, I am very pleased of my promotional video. Despite it being a very long process in terms of having 5 filming dates, plenty of pre-organisation and editing, all the hard work has paid of in the end. In terms of creating a promotional video in general, I found it really interesting, mainly because you are given the opportunity to create something using your own style of filming and editing. For example, you could create something simple and slow-paced or edgy and fast-paced. This has given me a great insight into DoP work aswell which is always a massive bonus.

How Professional Does it Feel?

In terms of working professionally, to me it didn't really feel too different compared to making a student film. This is mainly because the actual shooting dates didn't feel any different - I only used one camera and one crew member (Kate) and all of the preparation was done exactly the same compared to one of my student films.

Nonetheless, the key difference is knowing that you are creating something which isn't just beneficial for you (your university grade) but instead creating something for an employer. In a way this makes filming better knowing that you have an expectation you must meet otherwise the whole promotional video would pretty much go to waste.

Furthermore, another key difference is the amount of pre-organization which is needed. As my video revolved around interviews, it proved difficult to find a date where myself and the interviewee are free, as I had to take in mind that the people I wanted to interview are working full time so it was merely impossible to find a date where we are both free. However, this problem was tackled and I managed to get the crucial interviews I needed - perhaps I could've got one or two more however these aren't entirely needed.

So to generalise, I feel that making promotional videos is sort of my style of film-making. I am awaiting feedback from my employer and if she is happy then I may even have a few jobs in the future to create more promotional videos for the Dockyard. Additionally, my employer mentioned about creating sub videos which could be paid work which too is a bonus as I already have most of the footage.

Below is a link to my final draft of my video, let me know what you think. Thanks!
