How Was The Live Shoot?
All in all, to me I feel the live shoot went to planned. It seemed that we all had enough organisation and rehearsals and were confident for the live shoot. It seemed that when the set showed up the day before that the show was becoming real and nerves began to kick in, however the day before the live shoot proved to be very helpful instead of filming with a brand new set for the live show.
To be honest, and everyone's general opinion, the shoot could've been improved but it still went very well. It was expected that we would';t be able to film a perfect live shoot considering we haven't experienced a live shoot before, meaning nerves are likely to hit most people. The audience seemed impressed with the live show and the panelists were as good as they were in rehearsals.
Me personally, I feel that I had quite a big responsibility for the shoot. As I was on camera, you could feel the pressure - being positioned in the middle of the stage and the audience and knowing that whatever your doing with the camera that it is being watched, judged and recorded, so it was very important that all the shots were perfect. Which for me seemed even harder as most of my shots were moving, meaning the shot may look odd if it isn't framed properly, moves too fast, or moves too slow. However all in all, all of my shots were near enough perfect apart from one if I remember correctly where the shot was slightly off target. Nonetheless it went better than I expected!
What Have I Learnt?
It's been clear that the studio production unit has been a massive learning curve for everyone. Ranging from advanced pre-organisation skills up until feeling the pressure filming a live show, this has been very beneficial for me personally. I've learnt how to master the use of a jib as well as take responsibility of being able to match all the cameras up perfectly so they match in the gallery.
Not only this, but by being lead camera I've learnt alot particularly in the technical side of this course. Before this production, I felt quite confident and knew most of the camera set up, however whilst learning to match cameras I feel very strong with the use of the Sony's and learnt more about its aspects which it offers.
Even general things have been vastly improved, such as filming actuality and preparation for shoot dates. I think this is mainly because its providing more experience which is essential as I've only been used to cameras since I started this course nearly 2 years ago, so every step of filming is useful.
It's proven to advance mine and everyone else communication and team-work skills, as this is also the first time most of us have worked as a team, and the first time we have all worked together.
Overall Thoughts
So to conclude, this has been not just a vast amount of fun, but a great insight into experiencing the studio environment life. Its boosted my camera skills massively and has provided a great insight into what working professionally can be like.
