Introduction
As our project is focusing primarily on an amateur theatre production company, Kate mentioned in her character profiles that some of the characters had part-time jobs, making it seem more realistic. So after introducing this into the script, we now have a couple of brief moments where we learn that these characters do have part-time jobs.
For example, we learn that Jamie has recently been promoted to duty manager at 'Spill da Beanz', and we hear Jordan say that he has work in "45 minutes", whilst wearing a branded t-shirt that has a logo on which we are hoping looks like a work t-shirt. Therefore, as I feel reasonably confident on editing/graphic design using Photoshop, I decided to make both of these logos, which you can see below. But firstly, Kate and I brainstormed to see how we wanted the designs to look, as explained below:
'Spill Da Beanz' - Jamie
As you may guess from the name, 'Spill Da Beanz' is a coffee house in which Jamie works in. Therefore,we decided that the logo must contain anything iconic - coffee beans, a coffee mug, and so on. Nonetheless, I first googled to find a Royalty Free background of some coffee beans. After finding one (shown in the image below) I then cut the background into a circular shape to make it seem more like a logo, as shown below.
The next step was to then find a font and colour which stands out against the brown-based background. After testing most colours we came to an agreement to use a gold-based font, and a font which is quite thick and chunky for the 'Spill Da Beanz'. We then added 'Coffee House' as shown below which doesn't stand out as much, so that when you look a the logo you can easily understand what the logo is called, and what it may be about. So in this case, because 'Spill Da Beanz' is chunkier and larger, you immediately understand that is the logo's name.
I then added some contour and glow to the fonts to make them stand out and seem more professional.
And to finish the design, I added in a coffee cup in the centre of the logo, just to make it seem more iconic, as you can see below. Although nothing special and is quite a basic design, we both agreed that it is easily recognisable which is vital as you will only see the logo which Jamie wears for a few seconds, meaning its iconography must stand out.
Alls Well that Bakes Well
Below is the final image for Jordan's work logo. The idea of 'All's well the bakes well' is quite literal - Jordan works at a cake shop, helping to add to his feminine side. Likewise to the previous logo, we wanted to create something iconic and easily readable as this too will only be seen for split seconds and only in a few scenes, as this is the top he will be wearing on our first shoot date. So, we decided to literally find an image of a cake and then add writing on top of the logo. This too is also a very simplistic design, as we didn't want to put too much time into logo designing due to them only being evident for a number of seconds within our film.
Below are two images showing our actors wearing their shirts during our production:
