2 days ago, myself and other colleagues were given around 15 minutes to pitch our studio ideas. In terms of the presentation, I knew that I had to try and make it stand out compared to the other students to get a chance for the producer role for this topic. Therefore I tried to keep all content to a minimal so that it reduces the chances of the panelists of getting bored, however of course making sure that all content which is used is important and relative. Below is my final draft for the powerpoint plus my pitch treatment.
Pitch Treatment
As well as demonstrating our show, we also had to create a page treatment which basically acts as a summary. This includes the show title, log line (short pitch which is shown when people ask for 'information', say on TV), the genre, content, and so on.
How Did It Go?
Once I finished pitching, the panelists and I then discussed about my idea in brief. The feedback I received was generally positive, I had an original idea which had evidence of research and preparation. However, there were a couple of things which the panelists picked out, which were:
- That the idea of having the teams as the 'wingers' and the other as the 'whiners' needed a bit more
work. This is because it seems a bit confusing as there is only one team which actually moan (the
moaners themselves) whereas the 'whiners' only deal with complaints and don't exactly moan
themselves.
- It could be picky as my show is highly dependent on the cast. For example, if I can't find any
members for the 'whingers', then the show itself may be a failure.
- The prank idea could be very entertaining however this too is quite dodgy as to whether
permission can be granted
The day after my pitch, we were then all bought together to here who will be the producer for this project. The role was awarded to Helen however we were also told who the 5 runner-ups were, where my name was then announced! To me this is quite a good achievement as it means that all my work hasn't gone to waste. Therefore, I'm pleased to here that I was one of the runners-up!
Now that the producer has been announced, next week we will be interviewed for the roles left for the studio production where we will be interviewed by our course leaders.
