What Feedback Did I Receive?
So after explaining my game show to Helen, she gave me some feedback as to how to make my show better. This was:The Title
Firstly she mentioned that there was something about the word 'complain' which gave an unsettling and unattractive feel for the show. Therefore, I decided to change my game show from 'What's Your Complaint?' to the 'Whingers and the Whiners'. This seems much more catchy and gives a better insight into what my show is about. Is It A Game Show?
She then mentioned that my show seems more like a panel show instead of a game show. Initially, this is what I wanted as the idea of my show is to discuss about people's complaints more than it is a game show (as the purpose of a game show is to make it more entertaining and flow easier). Therefore, I've now changed my show to a panel show, however the structure will remain the same. This just makes it clearer that the gaming on the show isn't very important and competitive. For example, 8 Out of 10 Cats has some game elements however is mainly a panel show.Dependence on Casting
Similar to any other panel show or any show in general, the show is entirely dependent on the casting for not just the news anchor, but for whom the panelists are. Helen mentioned that I needed to make sure that the cast is chosen correctly and that the whole show could loose its potential if the casting isn't chosen right. This is where I came up that Dave Chawner could be the news anchor for my show (the presenter from my digital news project). This is purely because the news anchor needs to be very energetic and talkative to give the show motivation. As well as this, he could be slightly offensive to the team to add to the humour of the show. For example, how the new presenter on Never Mind the Buzzcocks Rhod Gilbert often insults the panelists however in a mild tone.Helen also then gave me minor tips and advice in terms of when I have to present my pitch. For example, using a presentation, and making sure that its as if I'm presenting to an audience whom don't have any idea on what my show is about.
Complaint Examples
Now that I have a main structure of my show, I began looking for examples. Instead of finding them on social networking sites, I simply googled 'funny complaints' to see whether there were are websites or articles which would have funny complaints, instead of searching through say YouTube to find them myself. Below are some links and complaints which I found:
'Always Maxi' Tampon Advertisement - 'Have a Happy Period!' (http://www.dearcustomerrelations.com/best-ever-complaint-letters/always-have-a-happy-period/)
This compliant shows an angry and very sarcastic customer who is going against this tampon's company's slogan 'have a happy period'. This website I found provides excellent sources which could be used for my game show, hence the name of the website 'dear customer relations'. Below is a section of her letter which you can see is humorous and extremely sarcastic:
Travel Complaints (http://www.news.com.au/travel/travel-advice/of-the-most-ridiculous-but-real-travel-complaints-ever/story-e6frfqfr-1226739965154)
"One traveller asked to move rooms as he insisted there was a strange buzzing coming from the airconditioner. After moving rooms, the noise was discovered to be an electric toothbrush in his suitcase."
"The roads were uneven and bumpy, so we could not read the local guide book during the bus ride to the resort. Because of this, we were unaware of many things that would have made our holiday more fun."
"It took us nine hours to fly home from Jamaica to England. It took the Americans only three hours to get home. This seems unfair."
Intervals
Simpsons Complaint (http://www.mirror.co.uk/tv/tv-news/simpsons-most-ridiculous-complaints-11-3248962)
"Language used was the concern. Talking about taking a poop, found this offensive. Another was having to take a pee, found offensive as well. Need to use better language as in the past when language was more pure."
"There was an episode of the Simpsons that featured marijuana leaves being fed to a train as fuel. This is very concerning since it glamorises drug use to children that may be watching."
Comedian Hotel Guest
(http://www.news.com.au/travel/travel-updates/is-this-the-worst-hotel-guest-ever/story-e6frfq80-1226041632612)
This article consists of a comedian who purposely leaves pranks in hotels when he is leaving. For example, the comedian Bert Kreischer he stuffed a pair of his jeans and placed his shoes to look like there was a body lying underneath the bed for the maid to see and clean.
I will continue to add to my show whilst creating a presentation for my pitch. Wish me luck!
