What Will Our News Channel Logo Be?
Of course, we have to brand our news channel accordingly so that it suits our target audience, therefore this post will explain and show what we are doing in terms for our logo.
Our logo must include our news channel name, which is 'SVTV' (Student View Television). As well as this, I've decided to add in our slogan 'By the students, For the students', as this will help to brand our logo accordingly to our student audience.
How can we adapt it for our target audience?
As our audience is generally aimed at the younger demographic, it would be important to make sure that our logo is generally eye-catching and vibrant - which additionally helps to attract our audience. This is similar to the BBC 3 60 Seconds news report (which you can see in a previous blog) - the channel is generally aimed at a younger audience therefore has a colourful branding which suits the target audience.
How can we make our logo Iconic?
Additionally, Kate and I came up with the idea of giving our logo some student iconography, so that this makes the logo instantly recognisable for whom it'll be aimed at. For example, something recognisable for a student (especially a degree student) could be a university hat, books, stationery, lots of change (to hint to the lack of finance some students have), or even empty alcohol bottles.
Nonetheless, Kate and I decided to use the university hat, purely because it is the most recognisable of them all. We then came to the discussion that the typography could even be handwriting, or even that the sound effects could be the sound of a pencil or pen writing. This will be experimented and discussed once I try out to make the logo.
For the typography, we need something which needs to be suited for the student audience - something bold, modern and attractive. Below are some examples which I chose, using Adobe Final Effects. The fonts I liked the best were:
Arial Black |
As you can see, this is a very bold yet simplistic typography which is perfect for the student audience. Where the typography is quite curvy it gives it a modern and up to date look. Additionally, where its bold, the colours seem to contrast each other more, making it stand out even more. But is this too bold for a typography?
Eurostile |
Microsoft San Serif |
Which Design Have I Chose?
The design/font which I will be using will be the Eurostile font. To me, I generally feel its simplicity works the best out of the three. The arial font may be the most eye-catching however to me it's a bit too much to have as a logo, plus it doesn't suit the slogan very well. The curvy san serif font however too works quite well, however the simplicity of the Eurostile font has won it over for me. Therefore, we will be using this font. I will soon be creating a blog post regarding the animation which I will be creating for the logo as well.
