How Did It Go?
After filming for my first half of my short film, I can safely conclude that it went quite well. The weather at first was very grim, it was raining throughout the morning which restricted us to shoot however after around 11am the rain cleared and luckily we had bright sunshine throughout the day.
All the shots were all filmed meaning that I got what I wanted, however I had to make a couple of changes, which you can see below:
- In terms of the panning shot showing the letter on the floor, I had to change this as the location was
extremely windy, meaning that the letter kept blowing away. However, instead of this I placed the
letter onto a small dead bush, where the wind kept it up and stopped it from blowing away. This
enabled me to get a clear shot of the letter without it blowing away.
- Originally, I wasn't going to bother with audio however I decided to just incase. This was quite a
good idea as I now have some dialogue between my two characters which could play as well as the
female narration, giving my film more depth.
- I couldn't film on Rochester High Street due to there being too many pedestrians on the high street.
Therefore, I went to my backup plan and filmed at a walkway next to the High Street which wasn't
as busy.
Was There Any Problems?
Apart from the high street being too busy, I came across a couple of minor problems, which were:
- At my viewpoint location, the sunlight was very bright. This restricted the quality of some shots
nonetheless I adapted to the sunlight to make sure I can get the best quality possible.
- The battery on the camera unfortunately died. However, this happened right at the end of my shoot.
I only needed to film the first scene, however this can be done on a different date. This shouldn't be
a problem as I don't need any actors so it'll be easy to do.
- One of my actors was an hour late, however this wasn't a massive problem as we still managed to
get everything filmed by 4pm.
What Went Well?
Instead of dwelling on the problems of my shoot, I felt that my shoot actually went quite well, better than I expected. This is because:
- My actors worked extremely well together, despite them not meeting each other before hand. I felt
that they worked well as a couple which is exactly what I needed as they are acting as if they are
married.
- My female actor showed pure acting skills. She was very emotive and had an excellent scene when
she finds out that her husband has been killed. She even begun crying which gives my film that bit
more of reality!
- The weather enabled all my shots to have great exposure and in terms of lighting all my shots were
reasonably reliable and consistent.
