How Did the Day's Filming Go?
Scene from our introduction. |
All in all, the day's filming went to planned. We managed to film our interview as well as our introduction which is what we aimed to film for. However, we didn't have any spare time meaning we couldn't set up our studio to see what it'll look like, as well as to get our shopping for our next news story.
As expected, there were a couple of changes for the day's filming, which were:
- We filmed in my colleague, Sam's living
room for our live interview. Here, we set up
the room so that our reporter and interviewee can look comfortable by sitting on the sofa, where
we will be filming in front of them. The interview is very basic, and only has the reporter,
interviewee, and the sofa in the shot. We did originally try filming with a poster in the background
to give the interview some colour, however the light kept reflecting off this making the scene over
exposed.
- We filmed our introduction just outside the house, as planned. However, instead of focusing the
introduction just at one place on the street, we adventured around so that we had more than one
location. This is mainly so that our introduction's location isn't repeated, and to make it look like
our reporter is walking around, giving hints that she may be walking to go and meet our
interviewee. This worked quite well as we managed to find a couple of good locations for our
introduction.
- In terms of our live interview, we also had some extra questions which our reporter came up with.
As well as this, the interview questions themselves had been adapted to allow the interview to flow
better, meaning that one or two of the questions may not've been asked (depending on which take
of the interview this is, as they differ). Nonetheless, we still asked the major questions which were
planned and the interview generally seemed interesting and enthusiastic.

Where There Any Problems?
Of course, we were faced with a couple of problems however there weren't any major ones which we faced which is always good. The problems were:
- Our interview scene is a bit too over exposed, and lacks a bit
of colour due to the sofa being a similar colour as the
wallpaper. However, in a way this helps to create more of a focus on our
interviewee and reporter which in the end is what we are aiming for. In terms of the exposure, this
can be dimmed down on post production therefore the exposure shouldn't be too much of a
problem.
- We were unable to get hold on a gun microphone, which was are aims as this helps to gain much
better audio quality. Nonetheless, we used clip microphones and the clip on rhode microphone
which we thought would limit are audio quality, however the audio quality was actually very
efficient and worked much better than we planned.
- Some of the interview takes were quite long in terms of time, however this hopefully can be
edited so that we can take out the less important parts of the interview if need be.
- We couldn't get hold of an extra camera for our multi shot. However, we used a GoPro instead
which in a way worked quite well despite it looking slightly odd due to its wide angle lens.

What Went Well?
Despite these minor problems, we also had some good points, which are:
- Our reporter asked extra questions and the interview generally
flowed very well, with our reporter
getting on well with our interviewee. The interview didn't look fixed and we managed to get all the
content and answers which we wanted from our interviewee.
- As mentioned earlier, we also added a couple more locations for our introduction, which helped to
allow the introduction to flow better and less likely to be repetitive if we used one location.
Our Interview main camera set up. As you can see, it is a bit over exposed however this can be edited. |
All in all, we had a good day's shoot. However Friday will be much more difficult - we have to film all of our 7 meals for our story, as well as set up the studio and film the studio scenes and be finished by 4 (as our news anchor has to leave for another work piece).
