After getting together with my group we've made some big changes for our news channel idea, which you can see below.
What's New?
Removing the 'SnapChat selfie' story idea
Firstly, we have decided to scrap the SnapChat story idea. Although we had quite a lot of research for the story, we thought it would be pretty weak as we couldn't find the right people for our story to work. For example, finding someone who wants to show us how to take the perfect selfie or someone who wants to be interviewed regarding the controversy of the app.
Therefore now instead, we have decided to create one big news story. This means we will focus just on our student night out story and use the live interview to extend on our story. The live interview now could act as a conclusion of the student's night out, or even have interviewers for the club promoters if we run out of room for the package.
Development on the channel itself
We also got together to think of what our channel name and slogan could be, as well as thinking on how to brand it for our audience. A name which we thought of could be 'SVNC' = which stands for 'Student View New's Channel'. This clearly identifies who are target audience as well as saying that we are a news channel.
As well as this, we also came up with a new's channel slogan, which is 'For the Students, By the students'. To me, I feel that this gives an inviting impression as students will be interested to see a news channel which is aimed just at them and by ex-students themselves.
Presenter Update
We also received another applicant for our presenter role, which you can see below:
David Chawner (showreel: http://www.castingcallpro.com/uk/view.php?uid=548524&job_uid=246855&filter=&presenter=0)
After looking through his profile, it is clear that David is experienced and has many past roles of being a presenter. It also says that he is a professional presenter and when I first looked at him I could see him being very suited for the presenter role. He is 26 which is a good age and genuinely looks older than students meaning that they are likely to aspire to him. His showreel too was very impressive therefore I will be asking him if he would be available for an interview (I won't ask for the task as it is clear from
his showreel what he can be like as a presenter)
Below is the message which I sent to David:
"Hi David,
Firstly I would like to say thank you for having an interest in my project. I have just looked at your profile and feel that you would definitely suit the role of being a presenter therefore would like to interview you to get to know about you and to let you know about what we intend to do.
We are currently working on a script for both of our stories however I will email you the script once we have finalised what we want to do.
We are aiming to film either next week or the week after. Dates will be announced after we have completed our script and know exactly what we are doing.
What days are you free next week so we could arrange an interview date?
Many thanks,
Sam."
This Week's Aims
We set each other's task for this week as we are very close to filming. Below is what has been set:
Me: Create a script for our story, as well as a script for the presenter.
Kate: Development on our channel's branding and beginning to structure the website.
Sam: Developing a script for the live report: finding which questions to use. Also doing research on drinks which are the cheapest yet most valuable.
