Today's Feedback

Today we presented our work (although we haven't filmed yet) to the rest of the people in our class and our course leader. We went through what exactly we are filming and how we are going to do it.

After presenting our work, we were given feedback which generally wasn't exactly what we wanted to hear. Our course leader suggested that our story is too weak and isn't entirely a story, and that we should focus the budget on a whole day instead of just going out to a club. This I understood and would give the story a wider variety as initially the story is basically revolving around alcohol and clubbing.

Helen (our course leader) then said that we need to have another story and that the idea of focusing on just one story too was weak and didn't have much to say. Therefore we have decided to carry on with our SnapChat story - we have another research to support the story however all we need to do is to find the people for our story. This means finding someone who is a 'SnapChat Addict' who could then demonstrate to us how to take the perfect selfie. Therefore we will begin looking for someone who could suit this role. This is where the live interview could also be used - we could get the reporter to learn about how to take a selfie live and then take one himself.

Although this is pretty bad news about our ideas, it is always good to get feedback so that we can make our news channel as the best as we can. Nonetheless, our general student idea received good feedback - the idea of our studio and branding too was strong therefore we will continue to develop on this.

New Aims for our Project

Our next aims now are to research and structure both our stories. The SnapChat story may need some extra research in terms of statistics however it is essential that we find someone who is willing to talk about their addiction to the app. We could still show the story by getting the reporter and naming the story something like "'x's guide to the perfect selfie". We could still show the controversy SnapChat has made and the story can still be fun and interactive. We could even get people to send in their 'perfect' SnapChat to our website to encourage audience interaction.

Our student story now will also need restructuring. The general idea is pretty strong (by setting a budget) however we need to give it more variety so that it is actually a story, instead of just showing students getting 'drunk' and promoting the clubs. To lead on from this, we could research cheap alternative day activities for students, such as cheap meals, or going to the cinema, etc.

Development on our website also needs to be done, however Kate is currently working on this and it is slowly under development (see 'Website' post). We also need to decide on our presenters and make sure that they are reliable and can film when we need them.
