The deadline for our second essay is fast approaching (due in mid May), so now that easter half term has begun, I thought it would be a good idea to start planning and developing for this essay.

Before I started planning this essay properly, I decided to wait until all the lectures discussing the theories which we should discuss had finished (which they did last week). This is so that I wouldn't have to change any ideas in case I found theories which I would prefer to discuss.

Theory and Film Decisions

Nonetheless, I have decided again to choose moving image, seeing as I am studying television production. The piece I have decided to use is something which I've been pretty certain on as a good idea for a while. It is the film 'Black Swan' (2010).

Why have I chosen to use this? It is mainly because of the theories which were discussed in lectures. Instead of choosing 2 theories this time, I have decided to choose 3 - so that I can have a longer discussion throughout my essay. These 3 theories are 'surrealism', 'the uncanny' and 'gaze theory'. I think that these 3 will provide plenty of discussion for 'Black Swan' as not only do they provide a discussion, but I can also debate one of these theories and argue against it, which you will see when I have written the essay.

Nonetheless, I have developed a brief plan outlining the key ideas I have developed so far for this essay. These haven't been developed on yet so are likely to change, as well as adding any other key points.
