Introduction

For this day of filming, my group and I plan to film random members of the public who are willing to be quickly interviewed the 2 questions: 'Who is your hero?' and 'Why?' This will be used for the introduction of our documentary as we are simply introducing by showing your average-day 'heroes' therefore people's 'superfans', which of course will then entice into our character Jake. Below are some details about the day's filming:

Location: Maidstone High Street - Next to the Queen's Monument.
Date: April 23rd 2014
Director: Aaron Perks
Sound: Kate Sargent
Camera: Sam Babington

How did the day go?

All in all, this day of filming proved to be very successful. Although all of the footage from today will be used mainly for our introduction, we managed to get more than enough footage to use for our montage. In fact, we managed to interview 20 people - all with consent forms (getting everyones permission), going over risk assessments, and even getting more which we planned for.

We managed to have a consistent setup across the day and received all the information (if not more) which we planned per interviewee. In fact, we even came across a busker named Zak, who we then filmed later on that day playing and singing a song he made on his guitar. We decided to film this so we could entice the music and potentially use it for the soundtrack for our introduction. For example, we show him playing his song and then showing his interview, showing how his hero has inspired him to play guitar and sing.

Plan for the day

The plan for the day was in all honestly more made up on the spot instead of being organised, however we knew what we were aiming for. Firstly, we met up and decided where we wanted to base our interview, how long for and how many interviews, etc. We then rang up Maidstone Council to ask for permission to see if we could film on the high street on the day (which we should've organised before, however we were fortunate enough to gain permission). We were redirected from Maidstone Council to the kent film office, which we were then granted permission to film on the high street as long as we didn't block any pathways or road (this information can be found on my 'call sheet' blog post).

Nonetheless we then decided to go buy a cheap portable stool so that our interviews can feel comfortable and sit down for their interview. This was literally just a cheap £10 stool which we bought from the British Heart Foundation, which we then decided to (nicely) return after we finished using it.

We were filming interviews for around 4 hours excluding a half hour break. Firstly, we were quite surprised how it was proving to be difficult to actually find people to interview. We nicely asked people walking past if they had a spare 2 minutes for the interview but the amount of people who declined us was surprising - you would think that most people would love to be interviewed and be filmed! Nonetheless, we just managed to reach our target of 20, making the day's filming successful.

Call Sheet

Below is the call sheet for the day, which includes the names of all the people who we interviewed. We have their personal details as well however will not show it over the internet due to censor reasons.

Any problems?

In general, we didn't over cross any problems at all. The only minor one would be the lack of interest people had, meaning we had to film for longer than expected. Of course, some people didn't take the interviews serious as well meaning we had a couple of joke and false interviews, which is why we set ourselves a high target anyway. On the other hand, we also had a diversity of answers and more importantly people who took it serious and gave us the answers we needed.
