Narrowing down the Fan
So now that my group and I have came to a decision on what story idea to use, we now have to research and find the person who we want to use. To help narrow down our choices, the person we used should follow these approaches below:
- Live locally, or somewhere where me and my group can travel to to interview
- More importantly, BE A SUPER FAN. Theres no use of having someone whom is a fan of
someone but doesn't make an entertaining story. The fan must idealise and the celeb must be a hero
to them
- Perhaps a story of the fan finding the celeb - something to SELL our story
- Evidence of the super fan e.g. props
- Must be reliable. Theres no point using someone if the person is too busy to be interviewed or even
worse not even show up.
At the moment, my group and I aren't certain on which type/age of fan to target. This is mainly because narrowing down the fan will make it even harder to find a fan to use, therefore we are generally aiming more for the story than for the character, to make researching easier and to have a better chance on finding a fan.
YouTube Research
After researching articles shown I'm my previous blog posts, I was aiming to use one of the fan's from a story, however these fans were either in other countries, unnamed, or more importantly I would need to ask for permission from where the story came from to see if I can use if for my documentary.Nonetheless, it seemed that one of the most common articles based on super fans were the fans of the boy band One Direction. So I began by googling 'One Direction Fans' but of course there would be an extremely large amount of searches coming up, particularly searches involving published articles etc. So I then took my search onto somewhere more visual and opinion-based - YouTube. I searched the same again into the search bar where I then started to notice fan-based videos of some One Direction songs. Below are some links to give an example of what I was finding.
One Direction Fan Video 1
One Direction Fan Video 2
This is where I came up with the idea of trying to find some form of details from the people who would've made this fan-based video. I thought to myself - would they be an example of super fans? They most likely will, if they are making a FAN-based video, then they are likely to be big supporters of the boy band.
The two videos above provide details of who made the details, which works perfectly as it means that I can contact them, asking if they want to star in my documentary. However, there was a major problem - both videos were made by girls who lived in America, meaning it is basically impossible to interview them. We could interview them via phone or online, but this wouldn't be as effective for our documentary as it isn't direct, and I just feel this just generally wouldn't be nowhere near as significant to if it was a direct one on one interview. Additionally, we would be able to see evidence of how they are super fans i.e. whether there room is completely covered in the boy band - we wouldn't be able to film it due to it being in a different country.
Casting Call Pro
I've also set up a job on casting call pro, however aiming that the person who wants this job has to be realistic and be THEMSELVES. This technique may not work as the website purposely aims at actors and other crew members - the chances of finding someone to be themselves is quite unlikely, especially when I am trying to find a super fan. Below you can see my application:
At the moment I am awaiting for approval for my application, however if I receive any job offers or interests I will keep it updated on my blog!
