As mentioned in my previous posts, we have been allocated 6 images created by Gregory Crewdson where we have to choose one to create a one minute sound design. Here are the images we were given below:

Beneath the Roses (Woman at the Vanity), 2004

Untitled, from the Series Collection of Twilight (1998-2002)

In a Lonely Place

Untitled (Winters Street), from Brief Encounters (2012)
Because I hadn't heard of Gregory Crewdson before, I didn't really have a good understanding of his work. However because I have now researched the photographer I have gained an understanding of his style thus helping me to choose which image to use for my sound design. My general thoughts on the selection were quite impressive - there are 6 photos to choose from all widening in terms of variation making my selection more vague and having more to choose from. However my choice of the images was still hard to make - I preferred some images to others however I felt that in terms of adding a sound design I feel that it would be as successful as another image.

My Chosen Image

So I managed to narrow down my decision to 2 images - In a Lonely Place and the Untitled (Winters Street) image from Brief Encounters (bottom 2 images). This is mainly because I became interested in the open space both images convey - they both show so much and lots of different elements to create sound from, all Winters Street - this is mainly because I felt the image had more elements of sound compared to In a Lonely Place. I came to my decision by picking out what sound can actually be in the image. Although the image itself is actuality quite bland in terms of movement, I felt that there is so much you can pick out, especially subtle elements which you may not even notice from the picture, but the sound I will use will show it and give the image more of a meaning.
