HMS Ocelot (The Submarine) |
To give my essay some key references throughout for my research, I've looked for some books which can be helpful for my report. These can be seen below plus a brief explanation as to how they can help:
The Historic Dockyard. (2011). Chatham Dockyard - 400 Years of Naval History.
This is an article taken from the Historic Dockyard website. This website will be used to obtain brief information for my cover profile section of my report. For example, providing information about the Dockyard's history.
Horton, S (2008). Professional Mangament: Digital Storytelling. Oxford: Focal Press. 133.
This book was used to give me a better understanding on establishing and tracking shots. As I used a track and dolly to enable me to gain a better effective establishing shot, this book provided a clear definition as to what these shots are and listing when they are commonly used and why.
King, C (1997). The Aesthetics and Psychology of the Cinema. Indiana: Indiana University Press. 62
The purpose of reading this book was to gain a better insight into Point of View perspective. This is because I needed to undertake research into POV work as I have a few clips in my video of POV, such as the GoPro shots going through the submarine, and the GoPro shots of the ropery. Nonetheless, the book provided me a definition of POV which I used as a reference for my report.
Edwards, M (2003). Key Ideas in Media. Cheltenham: Nelson Thornes LTD. 17.
This book was used mainly for research on iconography. As I purposely wanted my film to include lots of iconography, I decided to a bit of research into why iconography is used and what exactly it is, purely so I have a reference for my report.
Cleve, B (2006). Film Production Management. 2nd ed. Oxon: Taylor & Francis LTD.
This book proved to be very helpful. It discusses about how to manage video production in a professional manor, however this is for films instead of what I'm doing. Nonetheless, it taught me how it is essential to have a track of all those involved with the film on something called a 'call sheet'. Here I used the template shown in the book however altered it to adapt it to my video. For example, I got rid of the 'make up' column and replaced it with 'occupation' for both the cast and crew. As well as this, the book gave me a motive to create a time schedule (which is on my blog) which too proved to be helpful as it kept me on track on where I should be and when.Teller, Jean (2014). How to Become a Director of Photography. London: Sam Enrico. 4.
This book too was very interesting to read however only had slight relevance to my report. Nonetheless, this book provides a great insight into the life of a DoP which is what I am aiming to do once I finish university. Nonetheless, this was used to reference a section of DoP for my report, however whilst reading it has given me a better insight into what type of DoP I could be in the future, plus generally learning more about it's work.
These are currently the only books which I have researched, however as I continue to do my work on my report I will eventually be creating a larger range of books to reference my report.
