What Will be Filmed?
Our fourth and final VT will be the domestic abuse debate. To remind you, this VT is our prank and most dramatic VT - we will be having a male and a female actor who will demonstrate abuse (from male to female, and vice versa) in front of one victim who won't have a clue that this will be planned and a prank. The idea is that these victims (we will be attempting this three times - once per person) will think they are auditioning for our body image VT - being the model. However, are two actors will be having a violent and domestic argument and we will be filming the victim's reactions to see whether people act differently between male or female abuse.
What's the Setup Going to Be?
As this is a prank, we will be using just hidden cameras which need to be sure they are hidden so it doesn't spoil the prank. This will include using 2 GoPro cameras, an iPad camera, iPhone camera and 3 iMac cameras. In terms of audio, a Zoom microphone will be strapped underneath a desk which is positioned in the middle of the room, completely out of sight.
The GoPro's Setup
The GoPros will be set up in a way to make sure the chance of being caught filming are kept to a minimal, as well as making sure we can get all of the coverage we need. Me and Andrei were set the task to set up the GoPro cameras (as one of them is mine), where we eventually got these requirements:
1080p (Full HD): for maximum capacity
25fps: The preferred frames per seconds - we aren't filming anything fast, or anything slow.
Wide angle lens: To make sure that the camera covers all angles, as our actors may use the majority of the space in the room, so it is vital it is all captured
Low light off: As there will be fluorescent lighting in the room
Sound off: This needs to be muted otherwise you may hear the recording on/off sounds from the GoPro's
Connected to phone: The WIFI settings on the GoPro's must be set onto the GoPro App, so that the camera can be operated by people outside of the room. E.g, stop/starting recordings.
Covered in black tape: This helps to camouflage the cameras into their hidden positions, as the grey base of the GoPro is more noticeable then black.
Below is the cameras wrapped in black tape, ready to be hidden:

Hiding the GoPros
The prank will be held in our base room - a mid sized room which has a basic setup of chairs, projector and an iMac (essential room tools). The room will be set up by placing a low-lying table in the middle of the room, with around 6 chairs facing opposite both ways the table. The projector and the iMac will be set up at the front (as normal), however we will also have 3/4 stacks of chairs in the corner, which is where the GoPros will be hidden (shown in the image to the right).
As you can see, we used people's jackets to hide the camera more effectively. |
This is the view from my GoPro - the victim will be sitting next to the person (me) at the end of the row of chairs. |
Ipad Camera
In terms of the iPad camera, a member of our team (Illy) will be placed on the same side where our actors will be, however she will be crouched up on the chair with the iPad on her knees, facing our victim (and the opposite row of chairs). This provides a great long shot enabling us to easily see the victim's reactions.
Iphone Camera
As I was involved as an audience member in the waiting room, I came up with the idea of getting extra coverage of the actors by filming on an iPhone. Here, I placed myself so I was slightly slouched and had my leg on one of my knees so that this enabled me to angle the camera so that it can face the actors without looking to obvious that I was filming.
