What's the Story About?
As briefly mentioned in my 'VT Update' post, this story is about the latest news of Al Murray is one of the UK's most known comedians, commonly known for his obsession with beer and take on patriotism. Nonetheless, he is challenging UKIP's leader Nigel Farage for the MP role with a 'serious' impression that he will do the council well. Nonetheless, below is some research about his legislation.
'The Pub Land Lord' (Website Link: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-kent-30819779)
For his position, Al Murray has named his website 'thepublandlord.com' which shows what he will do to change the county if he becomes MP. His party, FUKP, which stands for 'Free United Kingdom Party', offers extreme changes to the council which immediately make him stand out compared to other parties. For example, he will change the pound to £1.10 as he feels this is "common sense", as well as "pledging" that the "UK will leave Europe by 2025 and the edge of the Solar System by 2050". With aims like these, its clear that he is applying as a joke and clearly mocking politics. However, this makes a perfect story especially for people our age as it will allow the debate to then talk about how young people in the UK are the lowest percentage to vote.

If this idea that he may be 'joking' isn't clear enough, then the print screen from his video regarding his position should be clear enough. For example, he has a pint in his hands, has an image of himself drinking a pint, and a doll which he is impersonating or vice versa.
Nonetheless, his position is still being classed as a serious position, which can be seen from the article below, which headlines "Al Murray's Pub Landlord to stand against Nigel Farage". The news report discusses how the UKIP leader challenges Murray's persona by being shown having a pint and also tweeting comments such as "The more the merrier!"
What Can the VT Show?
As the VT can only last for no longer than 3 minutes, we have to make sure that the VT clearly explains what the debate will be about - we want to show the conflict between the two parties and more importantly set up a debate which will lead into about how young people don't vote. Nonetheless, we got together as a group and decided to get VOX POPS of people in Margate to see whom they would prefer, or if they would vote at all.
However, to make the VT seem more entertaining and much easier, we have decided to make Al Murray and Nigel Farage's face masks then have actors to 'pretend' that they are them. They will be evident when we are asking people of Margate who they want to vote for purely so they are more likely to talk to us as it is quite entertaining and funny. Therefore, the VT will consist of introducing the dispute between the two teams, where are presenter, Dave Chawner, will then ask people who they would prefer. The winner will be announced at the end of the VT however we are likely to make this a draw so that the VT doesn't seem biased in any way. This will then enable the debate to be set up once we have explained the dispute, but in an entertaining way.
Below is a draft which I completed. I then sent this to Danny to see what he thinks and to work on.
Excellent research here again - making a potentially complex story simple and relevant to your audience is a challenge, but you highlight the important points well
