Narrative Structure in Brief
Now that my group and I have decided to do the SnapChat story again, we went over what the structure of our story should be, which you can see below:
Introduction: SnapChat & "'Selfie's" Themselves. (News Anchor, Studio, approx 30 secs.)
The introduction should of course introduce the story by saying what SnapChat is (like a reminder, as our audience are almost certain to know what SnapChat is) and briefly touching on what exactly makes the app so thriving. This could be done by researching statistics on the companies success as well as facts and figures on how much it's worth and anything relevant (shown through interactive FX's - see 'effects' post).
'Selfies' too will be introduced where we plan to show definitions of the word on the strap line, whilst the visuals will show the first ever selfie and who it is by (followed by a montage of people taking selfies: we could even see the story opening with the news anchor taking a 'presenter' selfie).
The News Package: The Controversy of the App (Studio to Reporter, approx. 1 min)
This will then lead from the news anchor to the short news package: the latest controversy SnapChat and selfie problems, where we will be talking about the trend #AfterSexSelfie (see my blog post for more information). This will consist of explaining what this new hashtag craze is as well as showing examples of the trend. We could then add some comedy to our story by instead of interviewing people, we could film their reactions after we tell them what the trend is all about.
For example, some people may find it funny, others may find it serious and others may be simply confused. This gets rid of hearing from people's personal opinions and instead adding humour and entertainment for our story - and more importantly targeting our student and younger audience.
Live OB: The 'Perfect Selfie' (News Anchor to Reporter, approx 1 min)
After this, the news package could then lead back to the news anchor who will allow the story to lead to a live interview. This is where we plan to get someone who is a SnapChat addict and get them to teach our reporter how to take the perfect selfie - live (which should make it more interesting as the reporter is under pressure). After we learn how to take the perfect selfie, there could then be a two-way thus leading to the end of the story.
