What can we include for our 'entertainment' section?
For my section, I had to make sure that the entertainment section is suited and relevant for our 'student' and younger audience. So instead of searching for something like 'student' entertainment, my group and I thought of any organisations or people whom would be able to supply this information. For example, NUS is an organisation associated with students as it allows you to get discounts in shops as well as supplying news.

Would NUS have any interring upcoming events? |
We then narrowed this down by searching for events - ones which are targeted at our audience and are entertaining enough to make a decent story from. These events could be found from a local council - potentially ringing up seeing if there is anything exciting coming up which we could research and report, however it may be quite unlikely to find an upcoming events which focused mainly on students. Nonetheless, perhaps any local nightclubs too could have something which focused on students. This is quite common due to the high popularity of 'freshers' - however this may be restricted now as the freshers month has come to an end. Either way, this will be updated!
Gadget Story
After discussion we came to the conclusion that this category is quite beneficial as a 'gadget' in a way is quite broad. For example, it could consist of the gadget itself as well as even applications on phones or tablets, which is what we decided to look into. We wanted to have a news story which is inviting and relatable to not only just students but for young people in general as well.

Snapchat - one of the most downloaded applications in the world. |
This is where we came up with the idea on doing a news story on the app 'Snapchat' - one of the most popular and hot apps you can find on almost every phone. However to make this story interesting, we needed to challenge the app and find something which most young people could relate to. The whole point of Snapchat is mainly for interacting with friends, however it is commonly known for taking 'selfies'.
So whilst on the topic, we could make a story of perhaps someone who takes this 'selfie' to the extreme, or even someone who may take too many selfies. We could create a controversial news story on how selfies may be becoming 'annoying', etc. This is only a brief suggestion on what we can do therefore will be worked on.
Art and Culture
For our art and culture category, this too is quite broad. Considering our university is an arts and creative university, this provides the chance for any local stories which other students may have. In fact, one of my work colleagues, Aaron, knows a graduate student whose fashion work has been shown and used in a music video. This would provide an excellent story as it shows we are likely to have easy and local access. Even if we researched any upcoming fashion shows would be helpful. Nonetheless, something along these lines would be a unique story which more importantly focuses on students. However, this is more informative than entertaining meaning that some of our audiences may loose interest. Then again, this may also attract an audience whom are interested in something more informative.
Celebrity and 'Gossip'
Considering we can only have two main stories, we came to a conclusion that this would be the weakest, purely because of the fact it would be very difficult to find exclusive information about a celebrity - let alone trying to interview them or even talk to them.
Conclusion
To conclude, we are slowly getting to grips on narrowing down what sort of stories we want. We do have a main idea on the style for our stories, its just the hard part now of searching for them and making sure we can get all the resources we need. All updates such as potential stories will be shown and updated on my blog!
