As previously mentioned in my other news anchor post, my group and I set a task of getting our applicants to report the news in any style they want.

Whats the Update?

After a weeks advertising, I only managed to find one applicant on Casting Call Pro, which was Abdoulie Touray (who I mentioned in my previous news anchor/presenter post). However, my work colleague Kate, knows someone who is a Capital FM breakfast presenter/assistant. The person is called Ryan Hunter, and he instantly seems applicable as it shows he has had previous presenter skills which additionally is suited for our audience (as Capital FM mainly focuses on a younger audience)

Nonetheless, we set the two applicants the task as described, however whilst waiting for them to complete the task, I decided to investigate their show reels (if they have one) and any previous and relevant work which they might've done.

Whilst looking at his casting call profile, Abdoulie only had one piece of film, which was called
'Yamaha Piano Key Shuffle'. I watched the video however it was hard for me to see what he is like as an actor due to it being a montage of people playing the piano, so I couldn't really get to see him
properly.

Task: Abdoulie sent me a piece of him reading a gossip-based news story. His presentation skills were reasonable - he presented the work with clarity and has the right tone for our student project. However, I was hoping for something a bit more enthusiastic. Nonetheless, this can be worked on once we show him our stories and tell him how we want it to be presented. I will now ask to interview him for some time next week.

Ryan however had a showreel on his youtube channel, as well as several other videos. I feel that he is very suited for our news channel - he is right age and has had lots of experience in presenting meaning that he should be comfortable for our channel. Not only this, but he generally has the right sort of tone for our student audience - he is energetic and motivating therefore should be able to explain our stories in an entertaining manor.

We asked Ryan if he could read a news article for us however he is very busy at the moment as he is working for Capital. This worried me slightly as if he is too busy to do a small task like this, then he might not be reliable for filming. However, we will continue to get in contact with him and let him know on the dates we are filming to see if he is available.

Hannah Eckersley (Showreel: http://www.castingcallpro.com/uk/view.php?uid=484596&job_uid=246855&filter=&presenter=0)

Hannah has only applied for this role today. My general thoughts on her are positive: we now have a female applicant as well as someone who has just graduated meaning she understands our student channel. She also went to drama university meaning she can apply this for our presenting skills and she suits the right age for this role. I've asked her to send me the same task as Abdoulie to get an idea on her presenting skills, which will then lead into asking for an interview.

Natasha Blick (Profile: http://www.castingcallpro.com/uk/view.php?uid=659617&job_uid=246855&filter=&presenter=0)

Yesterday Natasha applied to be the first person for the reporter role, which is excellent as we have someone whom wants to be a reporter instead of a news anchor. Although she doesn't have any examples of any past reporter/presenter work (and a showreel), Natasha is the right age for the part and generally suits the role as she too used to be a student.

Additionally, she mentioned that she has appeared in feature films before meaning that she is experienced, as well as having a professional acting coach who she sees once a week, meaning the coach could help her in terms of reporting. Therefore, despite having no visual showreel, my group and I feel that she is suited for the role therefore we will be interviewing her very shortly.

David Chawner (Showreel: http://www.castingcallpro.com/uk/view.php?uid=548524&job_uid=246855&filter=&presenter=0)

I've also received an applicant from someone called David. I was most impressed with this applicant mainly because he is a professional presenter therefore it is likely that he is the most experienced which is what we need.

I also looked at his showreel and I can see that he has presented film pieces which generally suit a younger audience which too is a bonus. Therefore, my group and I have decided to prioritise David for our news anchor and will be interviewing him very soon.
