So, now that I have completed the directions unit, it is time for the final project of this year - the commissions (documentary) unit.

With this unit being slightly longer than the previous two and generally being a bigger unit, our assignment is to create a ten minute documentary where we get to choose which one from two ideas, which are:

     1) A documentary which follows the BBC 3 style/theme, named 'My Hero' - stories which focus on
         heroism
     2) A documentary based on the Canterbury Cathedral - how the artists and artisans help to keep
          the beauty of the cathedral.

As well as making a 10 minute documentary, we were also assigned with a couple of minor parts of the unit which are listed below:

     1) A 25-50 word pitch which explains what we are aiming to create, and the visual aspects
     2) A script of what we intend to do in the documentary, as well as research and referencing

Once this was explained to us by our new course leader, Helen Curston, we had to find groups of 2/3 of the people who you want to work with in this project, as the project is group-based instead of being individual. The people in my group whom I chose were Aaron Perks and Kate Sargent.

We then decided as a group to choose the first option - a documentary called 'My Hero', which follows the same documentary style found on BBC 3. This was because we felt it had a larger variety compared to the cathedral option, as well as being more exciting and generally feeling more confident with this option. Also because it is with the BBC, we could follow the general conventional style of the channel thus giving us some guidance on how we create our documentary i.e. tone, formality, audience, etc.

Below are some key screen shots of the project brief which we were allocated:

To conclude, I feel that this unit will be very challenging due to the length of the documentary and the current little knowledge I have on how to create one. Nonetheless, working in groups will not only be fun but is also challenging as I haven't done much group work yet!
